10 ways to get Motivated
“Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.” - Lou Holtz
Motivation is literally the desire to do things. It's the crucial element in setting and attaining goal and research shows you can influence your own levels of motivation and self-control. It represents the reasons for people's actions, desires, and needs.
Motivation can also be defined as one's direction to behaviour, or what causes a person to want to repeat a behaviour and vice versa.
Here are 10 ways to get motivated in life
1. One Goal
This is probably the most common mistake that people make: they try to take on too much, try to accomplish too many goals at once. You have to choose one goal, for now, and focus on it completely.
2. Find inspiration
Inspiration, comes from others who have achieved what you want to achieve, or who are currently doing it. They just naturally inspire you.
3. Get excited
This sounds obvious, but most people don’t think about it much: if you want to break out of a slump, get yourself excited about a goal, do something you won't normally do. This can be done by reading as much about it as possible, and visualizing what it would be like to be successful.
4. Build anticipation
If you find inspiration and want to do a goal, don’t start right away. Many of us will get excited and want to start today. That’s a mistake. Set a date in the future — a week or two, or even a month — and make that your start date. In the meantime, start writing out a plan. Because by delaying your start, you are building anticipation, and increasing your focus and energy for your goal.
None of us likes to look bad in front of others. We will go the extra mile to do something we’ve said publicly. So, share the details of your project with your friends and family.
If you think about your goal every day, it is much more likely to become true. To this end, posting the goal on your wall or computer desktop helps a lot.
It’s hard to accomplish something alone. Find your support network, either in the real world or online, or both.
Whatever you do, don’t give up. Think of your goal as a long journey, and your slump is just a little bump in the road. You can’t give up with every little bump. Stay with it for the long term, ride out the ebbs and surf on the flows, and you’ll get there.
If you are having a hard time getting started, it may be because you’re thinking too big. So always start with taking small step forward.
Visualise pouring clean water into a bowl of dirty water. The more you add the clean water, the cleaner the water in the bowl gets. It then gets to a point when the clean water will have totally displaced the dirty water in the bowl. This is also how our mind works.
it’s important to start monitoring your thoughts. Recognize negative self-talk and then replacing them by flooding your mind with corresponding positive thoughts.
We should always remember these lines- “The ones who say you can’t and you won’t are probably the ones scared that you will”.
