Why Nigeria should not Accept Monsanto's Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)
In case you don't know, Monsanto who according to Walking times 2014 is the "most evil corporation on Earth" wants to introduce Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) into Nigeria's food and farming systems.
What does this mean you'd ask. Well i'll open your eyes to see in a minute. Just read on.
Monsanto is a publicly traded American multinational agrochemical and agricultural biotechnology corporation. The company is founded by John Francis Queeny, a member of the Knights of Malta, a thirty year pharmaceutical veteran married to Olga Mendez Monsanto.
Basically what Monsanto does is manufacture GMO's (Genetically Modified Organism). They do this using advanced laboratory processes which involves extracting the genes from the DNA of one species and then artificially forcing it into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal. The foreign genes may come from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals or even humans.
Let me give you a clearer picture. The gene of a fish for example can be extracted and then forced into a fruit. Making that fruit a Genetically Modified Organism (GMO).
Monsanto has been doing this for decades and have been very "successful" at it. Allowing them into Nigeria will mean opening the door to evil, death, disease and so many other horrors.
Why did I say that?. For example Records states that in the 1960's, Monsanto along with chemical partner-in-crime DOW Chemical, produced dioxin-laced Agent Orange for use in the U.S.’s Vietnam invasion. The results? Over 3 million people contaminated, a half-million Vietnamese civilians dead, a half-million Vietnamese babies born with birth defects and thousands of U.S. military veterans suffering or dying from its effects to this day!
Monsanto in the 1920's expanded into industrial chemicals and drugs, becoming the world’s largest maker of aspirin, acetylsalicyclic acid, (toxic of course). This is also the time when things began to go horribly wrong for the planet in a hurry with the introduction of their polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).
“PCBs were considered an industrial wonder chemical, an oil that wouldn’t burn, impervious to degradation and had almost limitless applications.
Today PCBs are considered one of the gravest chemical threats on the planet. Widely used as lubricants, hydraulic fluids, cutting oils, waterproof coatings and liquid sealants, are potent carcinogens and have been implicated in reproductive, developmental and immune system disorders.
The world’s center of PCB manufacturing was Monsanto’s plant on the outskirts of East St. Louis, Illinois, which has the highest rate of fetal death and immature births in the state.” Coincidence?
Allowing a Company with such an evil track record to dictate what we eat in Nigeria obviously wouldn't end well.
Further reasons why Nigeria should not allow GMOs
1. GMOs are Unhealthy
Studies done by the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) shows that GMO's cause organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging, and infertility.
Further studies show how genetically modified (GM) food can leave material behind inside us, possibly causing long-term problems. Genes inserted into GM soy, for example, can transfer into the DNA of bacteria living inside us, and that the toxic insecticide produced by GM corn was found in the blood of pregnant women and their unborn fetuses.
2. GMOs Contaminate Forever
GMOs cross pollinate and their seeds can travel. It is impossible to fully clean up our contaminated gene pool.
GMO seeds also kills the organisms that allow normal organic crops grow, thereby rendering the soil useless. The potential impact is huge, threatening the health of future generations.
3. GMOs Increase Herbicide Use
Overuse of herbicide results in “superweeds,” resistant to the herbicide. This causes farmers to use even more toxic herbicides.
Not only does this create environmental harm, GM foods contain higher residues of toxic herbicides. Roundup, for example, is linked with sterility, hormone disruption, birth defects, and cancer.
4. Genetic Engineering Creates Dangerous Side Effects
By mixing genes from totally unrelated species, genetic engineering unleashes a host of unpredictable side effects. GM plants can result in massive collateral damage that produces new toxins, allergens, carcinogens, and nutritional deficiencies.
5. GMOs Harm the Environment
GM crops and their associated herbicides can harm birds, insects, amphibians, marine ecosystems, and soil organisms.
Roundup herbicide has been shown to cause birth defects in amphibians, embryonic deaths and endocrine disruptions, and organ damage in animals even at very low doses.
It will benefit Nigeria and Nigerians to resist Monsanto, this will help achieve a tipping point against GMOs. It is key to educate the populace about the negative effects of GMOs.
Nigeria should apply the lessons learned from the experience of other contries like Burkina Faso, South Africa and America.
Spread the awareness!. Stop GMOs. Future generations rely on you.
